City solicitors back local food producer visits to Southernhay

Exeter legal firm Stephens Scown has thrown its weight behind a local food and drink producer with a giant chicken and eye-catching blue van taking to Southernhay West.

Solicitors and staff based at Stephens Scown in the city centre were treated to a demonstration by Tedburn St Mary-based 'Just Us Organic', providing organic chicken, bacon, sausages and eggs.

Sam and Felicity Ursell (pictured) who run 'Just Us Organic' at the small independently-run Windout Farm will stop-off at Southernhay West every Thursday between 1pm and 2pm.

Sam Ursell said: "It's really exciting to be able to serve our local city and show people what we do with our beautiful little blue van! We already visit local villages and this is our first city centre stop-off. We're really passionate about locally-produced food and drink and we're absolutely delighted with the support from Stephens Scown, they've been extraordinary in terms of the encouragement they've given us."

Stephens Scown has a dedicated food and drink team that works with leading producers and established brands across the Westcountry.

Simon Gawler, who heads up Stephens Scown's team, added: "I think it's really important to get behind young organic food and drink producers like 'Just Us' and show people the high-quality produce that they can buy right on their doorstep. Food and drink is big business in the Westcountry and the industry's producers have a hugely important role to play in the regional economy."

Sam, who lives and works on the farm with his wife and two young children, added: "Organic food should be for all and the integrity of our business is that it's just us, we produce the food ourselves, there's no middle-man and there's a long heritage behind this - my father has farmed organically for around 40 years."

'Just Us Organic' will be exhibiting at the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink later this month and will be producing a special sausage for the weekend called 'William's Wieners' to celebrate the Royal Wedding.

The farm, which is certified organic by the Soil Association, currently supplies top chef Michael Caines at Gidleigh Park with produce. Sam and Felicity also allow local schools to use the farm as a free-educational resource helping to educate children about the source of their food.
